J. Š. Jan Cimbura

The ideal of a wise householder, a father of a family and a respected neighbour - this is Jan Cimbura, the title character of Jindřich Šimon Baar's novel. The twelve-part sequel about the life of this guardian of traditional patriarchal values was filmed in 1995 by director Petr Adler and stars Pavel Soukup, Jan Vlasák, Milan Neděla and Viktor Vrabec. The centre of literary interest of J. Š. Baar (1869 - 1925) was at first mainly the life of Bohemian country priests; in his short stories, sketches and genre pictures he could use his own life experience from his years as a priest in various parts of Bohemia.
