J. A. Novotný: Aunt Fortuna

We offer Josef Alois Novotný's comedy Tetka Fortuna at Radiotéka mainly because of the interplay of three acting greats - Ladislav Pesek, Josef Kemer and Jiří Sovák as old friends. For Josef Mrázek, a retired accountant, money was never the main thing in his life. He has been a widower for twenty years and runs a modest household; the only pleasure he regularly indulges in are meetings with two friends, the mechanical locksmith and jack-of-all-trades Šebel and the former theatre assistant Evžen Lacina. But there comes a time when it seems to the modest pensioner that a man without money seems to have no respect in his surroundings. And so, for the first time in his life, he indulges in a little mischief and bets on Sportka. He doesn't actually believe he can win anything. But Mrs. Fortune seems to like to have fun and so pensioner Mrazek takes the main prize from her office. Finally, he can see if, as a rich man, he will gain more respect from his fellow man.
