Ivan Klima: The Last Degree of Confidentiality

The protagonist of Ivan Klíma's novel is Daniel Vedra, an evangelical pastor who loses his firm faith after falling in love with another woman. The former world of certainty collapses from the moment of the transgression of forbidden love, and only an impenetrable silence takes the place of God, accompanied by feelings of failure and guilt towards his wife and children. In order not to reveal his secret, Daniel is forced to lead a double life and gets involved in many small lies to hide his meetings with his mistress from his wife. The book broadly covers some of the current problems of the Czech post-Soviet reality - restitution, the topic of unofficial state security agents, drugs, religious sects. Directed by Markéta Jahodová and read by Jan Vlasák.
