World history is full of contradictions. On the one hand, it's certainly fascinating for its multitude of courageous acts and glorious victories that have moved human society forward. And even when that didn't happen, there were at least heroic defeats that positively influenced national consciousness. For centuries, children have been taught about this in history lessons; monuments are erected to heroes, and streets are named after them. On the other hand, history is also full of oppression and killing. Is it all random, or does it follow some rules? Does history repeat itself? Are there any laws of history? Can history be predicted?
