Irkally Gate
Secret of the Desert: The Journey of Kornel Báthory and Evliya Çelebi in 1662
The second part of the series about the anti-Turkish wars in Hungary, Transylvania, Croatia, and the Mediterranean between 1660–1664.
The year is 1662. After two years in the Turkish galleys, Kornel Báthory is barely a shadow of the man he once was. It seems that only death awaits the nameless slave. However, during the siege of Crete by the Ottoman fleet, Báthory once again meets the Turkish scholar and traveller Evliya Çelebi.
Çelebi buys the Christian knight and poet out of slavery and makes him his aide-de-camp on his travels. On the Sultan's own orders, Çelebi is to accompany the mysterious vizier Kirmizi Mustafa to the remote corners of Syria and perhaps even further, to the ruins of ancient cities deep in the desert. Whatever the goal of the vizier's secret mission, it will be a dangerous pilgrimage. Pirates, rebels, mysterious assassins, and perhaps even enemies that ordinary weapons cannot harm, lie in wait for Çelebi, Báthory, and the others.
