Invisible roots
Blood is not water. A novel chronicle about a family in the whirlwind of Czechoslovak history.
November 1989. Pavel, a university student, relives the events of the revolutionary days, which are marked by a family tragedy: his father, a member of the StB, commits suicide. Moreover, Pavel learns that he is adopted, and so he begins to search for his roots. Not long after the Second World War, Tomáš and Anežka, employees of the Bata company, try to flee their homeland through the guarded borders. What do fates decades apart have in common and how will they be affected by the tumultuous history?
We were Czechs, Germans and Jews at the same time. And fate punished us for each of those nationalities.
