Inspector Toufar's testimony
Miloň Čepelka, an artist of many forms of the written, spoken and sung word, surprised us again! As a writer, we have known him in recent years as the author of kindly, bittersweet novels or as a poet of picturesque sonnets and pithy haiku. This time he comes to us as the author of an octet of masterful horror stories. Half of them are longer, epic short stories that blend a fascination with the myriad disguises and hiding places of death and a chuckle induced by the grotesqueness of those who try to understand or even saddle this limit to our lives. The second quartet is made up of shorter and more lyrical stories in which the main character seems to be having a confidential and almost friendly conversation with the lady in black or with those who surround her as a gloomy extra.
The only book by Milona Čepelka published so far, which we do not recommend reading before going to bed! If you violate this ban, you will probably dream of a woman with three faces, about an elderly lilliputian, about the headmaster of the municipal school, Kabat, who, despite his suicide, spends his evenings in a strange, secluded house, about an old, treacherous lover, who's not happy with the cramped space in the coffin, about an unhappy mother, who seeks revenge on her son's unwilling killer from beyond the grave...
