In the wild countryside

Eva Grestenberger's humorous novel In the Wild West

Doctoral student Malvína Velehorská has to interrupt her studies at Oxford and return home to northern Moravia due to her poor mental state. There, she has a peculiar family waiting for her - her father is a politician, her mother is a fan of Karel Gott with autistic tendencies, her grandparents are sickly Catholics and her cousin is an occasional alcoholic. Motives involving communal politics, a range of folk festivities from feasts to hockey, learning to drive a car or cohabiting with children put Malvina at the centre of bizarrely comic situations. As a social psychologist, he sees his family as a promising ground for anthropological study. However, she is not so good at the role of a Moravian villager.

Eva Grestenberger

Eva Grestenberger (* 1993) studied psychology and zootechnics. For eight years she devoted herself fully to sport. Her first book was the dystopian novel Evil is Masculine. This was followed by a popular educational publication Animals are to be devoured about the psychology of carnism and veganism. She has also co-authored the animal rights publication Unfreedom. Apart from books, he is interested in animals. Although she has always flirted with satire, In the Wild Country is her first purely humorous book.
