Saving Gio
In the Lives of Puppets, author TJ Klune, translated by Kateřina Niklová
TJ Klune invites you deep into the heart of a peculiar forest and on the extraordinary journey of a family pieced together from spare parts. In a strange, unassuming home built in the branches of trees live three robots – a fatherly, inventive android named Giovanni Lawson, a sweetly sadistic mechanical nurse, and a small, neurotic vacuum cleaner. And living with them is Victor Lawson, a human. They are a family, hidden and safe. But after Vic rescues and repairs an unknown android marked "HAP" from a nearby scrapyard, echoes of Gio's dark past catch up with him in the worst possible way. A single drop of blood from Victor's palm is all it takes to alert the robots from Gio's previous life to his whereabouts. And as Vic's home goes up in flames, Gio is captured and taken back to his old laboratory in the City of Electric Dreams.
The rest of Vic's mismatched family must then embark on a journey across a desolate landscape to save Gio from being scrapped or, worse, reprogrammed. On the quest to save Gio, Vic, torn between feelings of betrayal and affection for Hap, must make a decision: Can he accept love with conditions?
