In an instant.

In the United Kingdom, a person goes missing every minute and a half. Without a trace. It' s like he evaporated.
Chief Superintendent Kat Frank is an experienced police officer who relies on her intuition. As a widowed mother of a teenage son, she knows well what it means to lose someone close to her and is deeply empathetic. That is why she was entrusted with leading a pilot project to test the possibility of police cooperation with artificial intelligence. Kat has an AI detective named Locke on her team (whose hologram bears a striking resemblance to the burly black actor Chadwick Boseman), and as she solves two pending cases, her experience and intuition inevitably clash with Locke' s relentless logic. Artificial intelligence and human experience. Logic and intuition. Against each other or together? Can this opposing pair work together and solve the reopened cases before another person ends up as an item in the police statistics? In one moment she is a brilliant detective, an exciting new voice on the literary scene asking the question of what it really means to be human.
