Short story audiobook by Jiří Raichl I'm fine, but I'm having a hard time with it
Do you like pancakes? I guess so. How about a Pavlish steak? Maybe I will. No, don't be mistaken. This book is anything but a cookbook in disguise. In it you will find a varied five short stories whose formula includes suspense, mystery, romance, biting humour and much more.
In the first one, we gently stew over a complacent novelist who has been manipulated into a tricky trap. In the next one, we get to feast on a spunky pensioner taking the local train from Opočno to Dobruška, but this banal ride turns into a real treat. Then we will bake a knitting (sorry, plot) loosely inspired by the curious but true events of August 1968. Then it's finally time for those promised pancakes, but beware! They are rooted in crime. And in the finale, we will be invited to a tortuous mountain hike into the melancholic solitude of the limestone peaks. Our company will be a pair of alpinists, intertwined by ancient memories with a damn bitter taste.
All the stories are knitted into the historical colour of the totalitarian regime of the 1950s and 1960s. Against the backdrop of "great history" unfolds the turbulent fates of (seemingly) ordinary people searching for a path to simple human happiness. That is, to love, understanding and the feeling that at least something has value and meaning.
