A horror story from the magical Šumava Mountains, where life and death shake hands
In the forbidden territory of Šumava, around the Křemelná River, ancient legends began to awaken in the late 1970s. Border guards are increasingly reporting the occurrence of unknown light phenomena here. Suspicions are growing about possible hostile plans by the West. And age-old rumors about ghosts and disembodied spirits are spreading through the region again. A scientific expedition is sent to places that have been inaccessible for decades to investigate mysterious apparitions. Scientists believe they will find a reasonable explanation, but perhaps they will lose their minds in the middle of the Šumava marshes. Are these really natural phenomena, or is something dark playing with them? Each of them carries their past and that of their ancestors in their souls — and the local region does not forget. This time, Šumava itself will take revenge.
Petra Klabouchová
(born. 1980) comes from Prachatice. She studied media relations and journalism at Masaryk University in Brno. She worked for several years in the editorial offices of regional newspapers and television. Now living alternately in Italy, the United States and the Czech Republic, she works in the music industry and represents several rock bands as a manager. She is the author of the two-part series for children, Vampire Chronicles — The Curse of the Vampires and The Dangerous Quest (2014). She has previously published the novels The Last Oranges of Cuba (2012), The Fraud of the Golden Pharaoh (2019) and the thriller The English Garden (2020). Among her most successful books is the detective story from the Šumava Mountains, The Sources of the Vltava (2021), for which she received the Johann Steinbrener Prize. In 2023, her novel At the North Wall and Stories from the Rock Underworld Full of Balls was published. In 2024, she published a horror story set in the magical Šumava Mountains, Ignis fatuus.
