The History of Duna III – The Battle of Corrin
For a thousand years, the Jihad against thinking machines has raged. Now, the final hour of reckoning arrives…
Long before the coming of Muad'Dib, humanity had to fight a battle for its very existence. The immortal computer-mind Omnius, leader of the Synchronised Worlds, has retreated to its last, impregnable bastion on the planet Corrin. An exhausted humanity is gathering its strength for a final strike to destroy the machines for good – or become their slaves once and for all. However, its coldly calculating adversary has a secret and terrifying trump card up its sleeve: a biological weapon capable of rapidly eradicating a large portion of the human population. And as the galaxy holds its breath awaiting the end of the thousand-year conflict, a meeting between the ageless Vorian Atreides and the young Abulurd Harkonnen, grandson of his best friend Xavier, will result in a blood feud that will forever be etched into the history of Arrakis and the entire universe.
The thrilling finale to the Legends of Dune trilogy, which significantly fills in the gaps of Frank Herbert's unique universe – from the first Bene Gesserit training and the background of the powerful Guild's formation, to the birth of the hatred between the Atreides and the Harkonnens. After hearing this story, you will never look at Dune the same way again.
What the critics are saying:
Watching the birth of the Guild, the Bene Gesserit sisterhood and the Mentats in the midst of total war lends a fascinating depth to the entire universe.
- Kirkus Reviews
The Battle of Corrin is an impressive culmination of the saga, finally promising answers to decades-old questions. The book's most powerful moment is the definitive and tragic schism between the Atreides and Harkonnen houses – a moment that gives meaning to the entire thousand-year enmity we know from the original Dune.

A satisfying conclusion to the trilogy... Anderson and Herbert have a feel for the grand scale and succeed in weaving multiple storylines into a finale that is a well-deserved reward for the series' loyal fans.

Brian (Patrick) Herbert
Brian (Patrick) Herbert (* 1947) Son of the American sci-fi classic author Frank Herbert, creator of the cult classic Dune, with whom he also wrote the novel Man of Two Worlds (1986) and to whom he dedicated the biography Dreamer of Dune, which was nominated for a Hugo Award. Although he has written numerous novels of his own (e.g., Sidney's Comet, The Race for God, the Timeweb trilogy), his stories set in his father's literary universe have received the most acclaim. In collaboration with writer Kevin J. Anderson, he created, among others, the book series Prelude to Dune (House Atreides, House Harkonnen, House Corrino), Legends of Dune (The Butlerian Jihad, The Machine Crusade, The Battle of Corrin), Heroes of Dune (Paul of Dune, The Winds of Dune, Princess of Dune), Great Schools of Dune (Sisterhood of Dune, Mentats of Dune, Navigators of Dune) and The Caladan Trilogy (The Duke of Caladan, The Lady of Caladan, The Heir of Caladan). They also co-wrote the Hellhole trilogy, which depicts the dangerous adventures of the colonisers of the planet Hallholme.
Kevin J. Anderson
Kevin J. Anderson (* 1962) A native of Racine, Wisconsin, he fell in love with writing as a child, though he didn't publish his debut novel, Resurrection, Inc., until he was twenty-six. For twelve years, he worked as a technical writer at a research facility originally founded by the University of California, which explores the use of new technologies to enhance United States security. It was there that he met his future wife, Rebecca Moesta. As an established author, he was offered the opportunity by Lucasfilm to write about the Star Wars universe – the result was, among other things, the successful Jedi Academy trilogy and the fourteen-part Young Jedi Knights saga, which he created with his wife. He is also the author of a trio of novels inspired by the poetics of The X-Files series and a number of works written in tandem with Doug Beason. His collaboration with Brian Herbert, son of the writer Frank Herbert, who decided to revive the fictional world of Dune after his father's death, was very fruitful. Together, they are credited with, among others, the series Prelude to Dune, Legends of Dune, Heroes of Dune, Great Schools of Dune, and The Caladan Trilogy. From Anderson's own extensive body of work, the seven-part epic fantasy The Saga of Seven Suns is a must-mention.
