Historian and diplomat Vlastimil Kybal
The historian and diplomat Vlastimil Kybal (1880-1958) is one of the leading Czech personalities of the 20th century. The present title is dedicated to this personality. Vlastimil Kybal (1880-1958), Professor at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Czech historian, pupil of Jaroslav Goll, Václav Novotný, Josef Pekar, Josef Šusta, Thomas G. Masaryk, František Drtina, a Czechoslovak diplomat, is the protagonist of an extensive and extremely detailed source monograph. He has devoted himself to the history of the Middle Ages and the modern period. He received his doctorate in philosophy (1903) for his work On the Teachings of Master Matthias of John. In 1906 he studied at the universities of Paris and Bonn. Between 1907-14 he made a number of research trips to archives in England, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Spain. He achieved a private docentship in 1911, He was appointed an extraordinary professor of Charles University in 1918, Full professor at Charles University in 1919. In 1920-39 he served in the Czechoslovak diplomatic service in Italy, Brazil and Argentina, Spain, Mexico - that's where his wife came from, Mexican painter Ana Sáenz y Aquilar. Vlastimil Kybal spent the Second World War and the years after it in exile, working at a number of American colleges and universities.
