Henrik Ibsen: The Lady of the Sea

Henrik Ibsen first began his literary career as a poet, but soon turned his attention to the theatre. Today, he is known primarily as a playwright, having written 26 plays over a fifty-year period. Ibsen's last creative period also includes The Lady from the Sea (1888). Although its protagonist Elida moves in a realistic social environment and family ties, the author is much more interested in her hidden passions, unspoken desires and the echoes of her hidden past. The radio production of Ibsen's drama was staged in a translation by František Fröhlich in 1988 by director Hana Kofránková, starring Jana Hlaváčová, Petr Haničinec, Hana Maciuchová, Veronika Žilková and other excellent actors.
