Helena Sobková: Kateřina Zaháňská

To what extent does the romantic portrait of the noble and somewhat mysterious "Madame Princess", as introduced to our consciousness by Božena Němcová in her Grandmother, coincide with reality? Duchess Zaháňská was undeniably a remarkable personality. For years she charmed the highest European social circles with her charm and wit. She led an intense private life marked by a series of love affairs with prominent men. But in spite of her vast fortune and other advantages, she lived her last years with a sense of bleak loneliness, and her restless and ever searching heart found no place of peaceful repose? From the book by Dr. Heleny Sobková read by Jana ŠtěpánkováPlease excuse the reduced technical quality of the recording.
