Granddaughter

The blindness of some people is endless

In 1964, a student from the East and a student from the West fall in love at a youth festival in East Berlin. He helps her escape, they get married. It is only after her death that the septuagenarian Kašpar learns what his wife Birgit has kept from him all his life: before fleeing, she gave birth to a daughter and left her in the GDR.
Kaspar does what she always wanted to do but couldn't - he looks for her. The search becomes a journey into the past and an encounter with the wounds and scars left by the GDR, the 1989 coup and the adaptation to the West. When she finds her daughter, she lives married in a neo-Nazi nationalist community in the countryside. Her 14-year-old daughter Sigrun is happy that her grandfather has suddenly entered her life, and he is also happy for his granddaughter. But his world is as alien to her as hers is to him. Can he get close to her?
