A workers' president and a powerless dictator
After the 1948 coup, Klement Gottwald was both celebrated and hated. That's why, seventy years later, we still have to ask: who was he, and what do we really know about him today? In the book 'Gottwald and His Time', the author attempts to capture the most important moments in the life of the “first workers' president” and to arrive at a fundamental understanding—how and why Gottwald reached the stage of establishing a communist totalitarian regime, in which the idea of class struggle and class hatred played such a terrifying role.
