Gerontology for social work

This overview text on ageing is intended for social workers who work with elderly people in an unfavourable social situation and with a low level of self-sufficiency. The first part presents the theoretical basis for professional work with disadvantaged elderly people, which can also be used in professional counselling. The second and third parts offer a systematic overview of the sub-aspects of care in social and health services, in the home environment and in residential care. The social situation and the degree of self-sufficiency of this group of clients are closely linked to their health status, so the last part of the book summarizes basic information on health issues of the elderly to the extent compatible with the profession of a social worker.
