Fundamentals of mineralogy and petrography

This publication is intended for future primary school science teachers and serves as supplementary study material for teaching the basics of geology. The mineralogy section of the publication covers the fundamentals of morphological, structural and chemical crystallography. Selected minerals are briefly introduced, listing their physical and chemical properties as well as information on their natural occurrence and uses. Genetic mineralogy is presented with a focus on rock formation. The petrographic part of the publication provides a characterisation of the main types of igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. The publication also includes a section dedicated to an overview of mineralogical and petrographic research methods, focusing on those applicable to primary school teaching. The intention is to make the subject matter accessible even to readers who are not involved in the geological sciences.
