Fundamentals of general pharmacology

The monograph provides a comprehensive view of the currently available knowledge concerning general pharmacology. The publication presents chapters on pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes, which are the basis for a proper understanding of the functioning and fate of drugs in the body.

After a general introduction, the molecular mechanisms of drug action, the individual receptor structures as well as the molecules involved in cell signalling are described. Pharmacokinetic events are characterized at all levels such as absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of the drug from the body. These chapters include sections devoted to the pharmacogenetics of drug metabolism, drug interactions, and descriptions of individual routes of drug administration.

The monograph also contains other important chapters, that deal with the history of pharmacology, research and development of new medicines, side effects, pharmacokinetic modelling, as well as the specifics of pharmacotherapy of different age groups and pathological conditions. The individual processes are supplemented with specific examples of drugs, which will allow readers to more easily apply the knowledge to clinical practice. Its content is intended mainly for students of biomedical disciplines, especially students of medical and pharmaceutical faculties.

The text of the book is arranged in 14 chapters, which are supplemented with graphic representations of individual plots and diagrams for easier understanding of the subject. The work also includes 21 clear tables that complement and summarize the wide range of information presented.
