From the past to today

History of the Czech lands from a European perspective. Updated with the latest event.

A clear treatment of Czech history from the very beginnings to the most recent events written by Professor Jan Rychlík, a prominent historian specializing in modern Czech and Slovak history and the history of the countries of Southeast Europe. His works on the history of Czechoslovakia (Czechs and Slovaks in the 20th Century and The Division of Czechoslovakia, both 2012) and a treatment of the history of the Slavic peoples of the Balkans (Between Vienna and Constantinople, 2009) were published in Vyšehrad. He originally wrote his synthesis of Czech history for Bulgarian readers and joined forces with Bulgarian historian Vladimir Penchev, who is the author of the chapters devoted to culture. Jan Rychlík consistently places the history of the Czech lands in a broader European context, especially in the area of Central Europe, with an open view to both the West and the East.
The title of the book harks back to the collection From Prehistory to Today, compiled for the sixtieth birthday of Josef Pekař, whose concept of Czech history Jan Rychlík follows in many ways. The book is published in a new, updated edition.
