Forever the forests sing

From Zdeněk Březina's commentary to the original LP album 2 18 047"Trygve Gulbranssen Věčně zpivají lesy" released by Supraphon in 1975 and now released digitally for the first time: A place somewhere north of the villages and towns of Norway; an ancient family farm in the deep woods; difficult to access and tricky, but in their infinity still eternally singing; a place shrouded in mysterious legends, tales and legends - this is the place of action. Its heroes are Norwegian peasants, deeply rooted in the land they have lived on for centuries, struggling for crops and livelihoods, as well as battling the harsh Nordic nature for their existence and safety: generations of Björndal peasants, in which the sons inherit the first name Dag, a sense of belonging to an old family of warriors and hunters, self-confidence and pride, and an age-old feud with the people of the flat land under the forests. The Björndal are different from the people of the plains, who have full barns and full barns, different from the people of the cities, refined and spoiled by the conjuncture of trade in the 18th and 19th centuries, indulging in the luxury of expensive balls and dazzling gowns. The collision of these two worlds and the related internal struggles of the novel's central character, the implacable and proud peasant Dag Björndal, form the plot of this powerful family saga, typically Norwegian and gripping in its broad sweep. The captivating story of an ancient family history has not lost its impact over the years; is one of those we are accustomed to rightly call immortal.
