Folder 64

The fourth case of Carl Morck of Department Q

Forty years ago, abuse, coercion and mistreatment were part of the daily life of women deported to the Danish island of Sprogo. For some, life there offered unlimited power, but for most it caused suffering. A similar fate befell Nete Hermansen, who managed to get away from the island. At least, that's what she thought. Her case will become one of the most difficult in the Q Division investigation. What does her past hold? Why did she get to the island? Where did the people around her go? And who's behind all this?

Stubborn assistants Asad and Rose force their boss Carl Morck to reopen an old case. But they soon discover that it is only a small part of something much bigger. About the worst possible abuse of power that still has no end in sight. Meanwhile, Carl is dealing with his own problems - an old death case from 1978, when Carl's uncle drowned under mysterious circumstances. The investigation, which was eventually closed for lack of evidence, had two main suspects: cousins Ronny and Carl Morck.

Jussi Adler-Olsen's books are published in thirty-six languages. In his native Denmark alone, more than two million copies have been sold, and in Germany, for example, sales have exceeded three and a half million books.

"Not only a brilliant, stand-alone thriller, but also the continuation of an ever-improving series about a diverse trio of detectives. "
- VRIJ NEDERLAND

"Everything is discussed so skillfully and colourfully. Jussi Adler-Olsen's narration and sense of social injustice are the basis for a gripping plot that surprises from beginning to end. "
- INFORMATION

"It's about violence and power. Adler-Olsen shows us all human weaknesses in a brutal way. "
- THE CRIME HOUSE

"In a crime novel in which a number of old missing persons cases are eventually solved, we can also follow the story of the development of Danish neo-Nazism against the backdrop of the old shooting case of Police Commissioner Carl Morck. "
- JYLLANDSPOSTEN
