Family tragedy and other short stories
Jaroslav Hašek wrote more than a thousand short stories in his lifetime. He published them in various magazines and newspapers, such as Národní listy, Zlatá Praha and others. In his stories, Hašek gleefully pokes fun at human hypocrisy, church hypocrisy, social conventions, and various other vices. In them, he presents himself as a master observer of everyday life, but beneath the light tone of the stories we find a deeper layer, aimed at criticizing social and political conditions. Hašek is known as a humorist, but in addition to being able to entertain readers, he was also gifted with deep insight into human nature and fate. The collection includes famous stories such as: The Suffering of Mr. Tenkrát, The Hamster Affair, The Barber' s, and The Cannibal History.
