English Garden
This is what death looks like. Or hell.
We are rarely willing to admit that our existence rests on very shaky foundations. It takes only a little, and everything we have believed up to now will come crashing down like a house of cards. In a small, quiet town, where neighbours greet each other respectfully and smile at each other, two ten-year-old boys disappear. A hunt is launched for the alleged perpetrator, and every moment someone else is in the crosshairs of the police and the neighbours. The community slowly begins to disintegrate, terrible secrets come to light, no one can be sure in front of others. But what really happened? The story is told by one of the disappeared boys, whose childlike innocence takes the reader through the darkest recesses of the human conscience, gradually destroying the only remaining solace: Something like this could not happen here. Wrong! It's already happened. The story is loosely inspired by real events that took place in 2006 in the Italian town of Gravina in Puglia.
