Enchanted Greenhouse
Sarah Beth Durst’s new novel once again invites you into the world of The Shop of Spells. This time, the story takes place on a remote island full of singing flowers, ancient secrets and the aroma of honey cakes. Librarian Terla Perna recklessly broke the law when, out of loneliness, she used a spell to create a friend – an intelligent plant. As punishment, she was turned into a wooden statue and placed in the northern reading room of the Alysian Empire Library as a warning. Her story could have ended there, but one day she wakes up, starving and freezing, in the snowy landscape of a nearly deserted islet with hundreds of magical greenhouses. The only inhabitant of the island is the grumpy gardener, Florian, who surprisingly offers her clean clothes, fresh honey cakes and a place to stay – at least for a few days, until a ship arrives to take her home. Terla, however, is in no hurry to return, and the charmingly quirky gardener slowly grows on her, as does the entire island. When she discovers that the spells keeping the greenhouses running are failing one by one and the precious plants are dying, she decides to try to save them, even if it means breaking the law again. But this time she is not alone. With the help of Florian and a peculiar desert rose, she tries to uncover the secrets of a long-dead wizard and delves into magic once more to save the island where she hopes to find her place in life. The Enchanted Greenhouse is a lovely story full of magic, forgiveness and love.
