Elephant
What would you do if a live elephant suddenly appeared in your home? And what if you found out you weren't the only one? In Sasha Filipenko's new satirical allegory, one day an elephant appears in every household, every back garden, every housing estate. Huge, tangible, silent. Nobody knows why. Nobody knows from where. And most people prefer to pretend they don't see it. The novel The Elephant is a satirical allegory that takes place in a society that one day experiences an absurd and symbolic trauma—the sudden and inexplicable appearance of live elephants in homes across the country. The author works with the metaphor, originating from Anglo-Saxon culture, that refers to a large, obvious problem or topic that everyone is aware of but no one wants to talk about, usually because it is uncomfortable, taboo, or confrontational.
