Electric locomotives of the E 479.0 series

In the 1960s and 1970s, Škoda of Plzeň developed a number of types of electric locomotives, for which it was the largest domestic manufacturer in Czechoslovakia. Some of these locomotive series have been out of service for a long time, others are in their last examples.

However, the situation is completely different for the time being in the case of the E 479.0 (later 130) locomotive series, which was built in 1977 with 54 machines. Forty of them were received by the then Czechoslovak State Railways, the rest by the North Bohemian Mines Nástup Tušimice. Due to their versatility and relatively modern technical design, after more than 40 years of daily operation, almost a full number of them are still in service on our lines (only one locomotive was scrapped after an accident).

The permanent addition to the overhaul is testament to their irreplaceability and the long future that these reliable machines rightly deserve. The publication presents the circumstances of the creation of this type, its technical description, operation and many other facts related to one of the main locomotive series of the current state freight carrier.
