Education and today

This monograph presents texts by Czech and Slovak university teachers and researchers in the fields of pedagogy, psychology, sociology, and philosophy of education who deal with questions of educational theory. It is divided into three parts, which address the problems of erudition from different perspectives and follow the specific logic, contradictions, and questions of these problems. It includes historical, methodological, and philosophical perspectives and texts with a socio-political overlap focused on the problems of the ideologisation of contemporary concepts of education. Specifically, the book addresses the following topics: historical precursors to contemporary problems in the theory of education; Comenius's image of the world of the educated, its attributes and critique; a phenomenological analysis of contemporary concepts of education in the context of the philosophy of the natural world; the role of metaphors in pedagogical discourse and the missing metaphor of the idea of erudition; ideological and organisational changes in university management and in the forms of university education under the influence of neoliberal pressures; academic goals of basic education; school reforms and their ideologisation; and the issue of cultural relativism in education.
