Dying Light
Orkney welcomes the solstice. But the summer is deceptive. Not even the longest days will bring light.
On a June morning, the body of an elderly man is found in a prehistoric tomb on the island of Hoy. According to Detective Fergus Muir, it must be a tourist who simply overestimated his strength during an evening hike. The clues, however, suggest that something far more sinister has taken place. The dead man was supposed to meet someone in the tomb at night, and the purpose of the meeting could finally shed light on the tragedy of a boy who has been missing in Orkney since the solstice exactly thirty years ago.
Reporter Freya Sinclair, however, is only marginally interested in her godfather's new investigation this time. She is fully occupied with deciphering the mystery of the secret notes in which her father revealed the links between the Orkney police and gangsters. For the sake of her father's memory, she is willing to stand up to the criminals again – with a bulldog tenacity that will bring her to the brink of self-sacrifice and severely affect those closest to her.
Daniel Aubrey's second crime thriller also draws on the captivating charm of the Orkney Islands, which are now presented to readers in the Nordic summer, when the sun almost never sets over them.
