Dog Stars (Look to the Stars)
A bestselling book adapted for the big screen
Forty-year-old Hig has little left in the world but an old Cessna, memories, and his dog. As one of the few survivors of a devastating flu pandemic, he and his gun-crazy neighbour, Bangley, try to fend off raids from thieves and thugs at a dilapidated airport. Hig regularly surveys the surroundings from his plane, until one day he picks up a fragment of a transmission on his radio. From that moment on, he is haunted by a question: is there any hope he could find other ordinary people nearby? Neighbours he could talk to, who wouldn't want to rob or kill him?
But leaving the safe perimeter and heading out into the unknown wilderness is a damned dangerous undertaking, and Hig hesitates – until the day it seems he has nothing left to lose…
In the novel The Dog Stars, which echoes the works of London, Melville, and Hemingway and has been compared to McCarthy's The Road, an adventurous plot is blended with timeless reflections on the meaning of friendship, belonging, and humanity.
The book was adapted into the film The Dog Stars, directed by the experienced Ridley Scott, released in the summer of 2026.
