Dientzenhofer
This monograph is dedicated to the father and son duo – Christoph and Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. The first part follows the life and work of Christoph from the moment he left his family home in Upper Bavaria, following his older siblings, to journey to Prague in search of an apprenticeship and work. There, he found a new home and embarked on his life's path as a builder and architect.
This is followed by an interim period where the master father and journeyman son worked together on significant buildings such as the Prague Loreta and the Břevnov Monastery with its Broumov branch. The second part guides us through the magnificent culmination of the Dientzenhofer family of builders and architects, as well as the pinnacle of the development of the radical branch of the Baroque style, embodied in the life and extraordinary work of Kilian Ignaz. The third part is devoted to more detailed descriptions of selected, most significant buildings by both architects.
