Diabetes in endocrinopathies and endocrinopathies in diabetes
This book deals with the reciprocal relationship between diabetes and a wide range of endocrine disorders. Diabetes mellitus is, of course, also an endocrine disease, but in the Czech Republic it has historically been treated in isolation from other endocrinopathies by a separate specialty. Not only with the change in the attestation system (attestation in diabetology and endocrinology), but mainly with the significant increase in the incidence of diabetes and other endocrinopathies, there is a growing need for a comprehensive view of the reciprocal relationship between diabetes and other endocrine disorders. A whole range of hormones affects the action of insulin, and insulin affects the function of many hormonal systems.
The individual chapters are structured according to the endocrine glands (hypothalamus/pituitary, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, gonads, endocrine system of the GIT, bones). The introduction to each chapter contains a pathophysiological overview (a simple explanation of the relevant hormonal function/system), the next part of the chapter is devoted to the reciprocity of the relationship between diabetes (both basic types, or other types where the issue is relevant) and the corresponding endocrinopathy, with great emphasis placed on the clinical significance of the relationship (e.g., the sense of screening for diabetes in adrenal dysfunction with the indication of clinical-laboratory identifiers, specific gonadal disorders in diabetes, the effect of gonadal disorders on the course of diabetes, etc.). Attention is also paid to the specifics of treatment in the simultaneous occurrence of diabetes and the corresponding endocrinopathy and the mutual influence of endocrinological treatment on diabetes and antidiabetic treatment on the corresponding endocrinopathy.
The book is intended for the professional public, especially for postgraduate study (internists, diabetologists, endocrinologists).
