Destroy that name
A brilliantly constructed psychological thriller from the Magnesia Litera award-winning author
Eighteen years ago, Klára decided to sever all ties with her hometown in eastern Bohemia and leave for Germany. Now she lives and works in Hamburg, where she seemingly has everything she could want: a loving partner, a position at the university, friends, a flat in the bohemian St Pauli district… But when her father calls her one hot August night to say that someone wants to kill him, Klára feels as if her unresolved past has reached across the chasm of time to bring her back home.
After her father's death, she sets out to arrange matters concerning the funeral and inheritance in the “dump near Pardubice”. Beneath the veil of peaceful small-town life, nothing is as it first seems. Everyone Klára moves among in the first days after her father's death is hiding something: her younger sister Ela, her childhood friend Majda, her ex-boyfriend's partner Tereza, her father's first wife Milada…
They all have their secrets. They all have a reason to hate Klára. And one of them wants to see her dead.
