Death of a Heretic
Will Sister Fidelma Solve the Frankish Bishop's Murder?
In the year 672, the ancient Irish abbey of Imleach Iubhair is undergoing extensive reconstruction when a fire breaks out. The sole victim is Bishop Brodulf of Luxovium, a cousin of the Frankish king, who is visiting the abbey. Abbot Cuán summons Sister Fidelma to investigate the unfortunate incident, and it soon becomes clear that the bishop was stabbed before the fire even started. The monastery is a place where various Christian factions of the time converge and passionately debate their beliefs. However, as the death toll rises, Fidelma discovers that far less noble disputes are also taking place within the abbey, and she must use all her wits to unravel the complex mystery.
