The fictional Moravian village of Habrůvka at the end of the 19th century is the stage on which the everyday joys and sorrows of the local inhabitants are played out. Old folk customs, church holidays, living in harmony with nature and God, but also neighbourly disputes, Envy, love, adultery, illegitimate children, alcoholism. A Year in the Village, a fictional chronicle from the Moravian countryside, was first published in 1903 and 1904. Only the elder of the Mrštík brothers, Alois, was listed as the author. For the second edition of the novel, Alois added his brother Vilém as co-author, who apparently wrote lyrical passages praising Moravian nature in the cycle of the whole year. The radio treatment dates from 1983. At that time, the novel was read in a Brno studio by actor Martin Růžek.
