Data about children

The book provides a detailed review and analysis of publicly available data on child protection from 2005, when the data began to be published, to 2020.

The information ranges from the number of children in various forms of foster care to the expertise and numbers of staff in institutional care to the financial costs associated with the various elements of the child protection system. This analysis collects the maximum amount of information available – from internet sources, archives, yearbooks, obtained through questions to state and local government officials and health insurance companies.

Where possible, data from the Czech Republic are compared with data from abroad.

In this way we have managed to put together a whole that is very comprehensive, sometimes shocking and unfortunately quite often difficult to understand. Many data cannot be interpreted because the categories being tracked are not clear, and in other cases, data collection methodologies change from year to year. In summary, the analysis is a rather sad piece of work about the unconceptual and fragmented protection of children in the Czech Republic.
