Dance between the eggs
Dagmar Pecková's first book, *Ty vole se neříká* (*You Don't Say That, Dude*), showed that the opera diva can write as sharply and wittily as she sings – her columns, in which she ironically and humorously took aim at the world of opera and life around us, won over thousands of readers. Now comes the loose sequel, *Tanec mezi vejci* (*Dancing on Eggshells*) – even more personal, open, and, at times, provocatively Pecková.
Dagmar Pecková writes about her childhood in Medlešice, Pioneer camps, and the shock of the occupation in August 1968; about starting at the conservatoire, her first wedding night, and meeting the stars of the music world; about embarrassing moments and triumphs that others would rather keep quiet about. She effortlessly combines humour, self-reflection, and honesty, creating a colourful picture of a life that entertains, moves, and inspires.
The title *Dancing on Eggshells* is a metaphor for a life in which one is forced to tread carefully so as not to break anything or offend anyone. Pecková confronts such caution with humour and decisiveness – offering a book full of charm, wit, and freedom that reads in a single breath, just like listening to her unmistakable voice.
