Dam builder

The publication is based on the personal memories of ing. Dr. Jan Čermák - builder of dams in the Oder basin. Despite their personal character, however, the reader will be strongly impressed by the immense efforts of the builders and workers who carried out water works in our country during the 20th century. After all, the life and work of Jan Čermák (1903-1988) almost step by step followed the course of the century in which our greatest water works were born, but also when our society experienced the greatest upheavals and dramas. During the First Republic, during the Second World War, and especially after 1945, it was necessary to ensure sufficient drinking water for the rapidly developing industrial Ostrava region. The book captures the constructions that the water engineer Jan Čermák designed or managed (Kružberk, Žermanice), but it also deals with the technical solutions and details of the construction of water works realized in Czechoslovakia during the 20th century.
