Czechia vs. the Future
In this very topical book, journalist David Klimeš provides an overview of some of the most acute problems currently facing the Czech Republic. He compares the situation to a premature mid-life crisis, characterised by dissatisfaction, uncertainty, and a failure to address the root causes of problems. The result is a “stuck state” without strong shared values, incapable of tackling some of its most pressing tasks. These include, for example, debt enforcement and the debt trap into which a growing percentage of the Czech population is falling, or the pension reform that has still not been successfully implemented. The author analyses these and other burning issues based on current data, but also draws comparisons with Masaryk's stance on “our current crisis”. The text is supplemented by discussion contributions from other renowned authors such as Danuše Nerudová, Daniel Münich, Daniel Prokop, and Tomáš Němeček.
