Czech spiritual rock formation

This political science study introduces the public to the importance of the Czech Catholic Church and Catholicism in general from the second half of the 19th century to the 21st century. It is not a theological or historical publication, but rather an exploration of the contribution and significance of Catholicism to the Czech nation and state. The author describes, analyses, and evaluates the activities of the Catholic Church and Catholicism in the historical development of various state structures and in particularly difficult situations for the Czech nation.

The study profiles Czech Catholicism not only in its ecclesiastical context, but above all in the national and state environment. It particularly highlights the importance of Czech Catholicism in the social sphere and emphasises solidarity and humanism in historical periods of crisis. It points to the state-building role of Czech Catholicism during the German and Soviet occupations and its resilience in periods of various secularisation and etatism. The publication does not provide historical descriptions of individual events, but rather their evaluation in national history under different political circumstances and political systems.
