An intimate story from a successful Czech author that ends where the darkness begins
Twelve-year-old Bára is on the cusp of adolescence. She shows artistic talent, but also has a fiery and sometimes uncontrollable nature. As puberty sets in, the conflict between her spontaneity and her mother's desire for an uncomplicated life deepens dramatically, especially in contrast to her slightly older, more compliant sister.
The more Bára tries to express her true self, the more desperately those around her try to control these incomprehensible needs that deviate from the norm. Her talent is noticed by a young art teacher nicknamed Frodo, who offers her sensitive support in her struggle against her family's demands. Behind a façade of outward respectability, the family hides some very dark secrets. Yet Bára keeps losing her trench war of misunderstanding. Her only allies become the crows nesting in the park outside her window. Crows that represent the natural instinct pervading both animal and human lives.
A world that Bára is connecting with more and more powerfully. Will anyone offer her real help? Is there any way out?
