The book was not a success, and the author's fledgling career almost ended before it had even begun. Fortunately, her second novel, Steal the Dragon, sold much better and received favourable reviews from critics. The author's career slowly took off, and with each new title, her sales and fan base grew. The growing popularity of Briggs's books, along with her ability to create vivid, compelling characters, inspired her publisher to ask her to try writing a modern urban fantasy. Briggs accepted the challenge and signed a contract for a series of books starring Mercy Thompson. ANITA KRAUSOVÁ A Czech theatre, film, and television actress and radio presenter. She is involved in the creation of audiobooks and thematic podcasts and is a presenter on Radio Wave. She studied alternative and puppet theatre at DAMU, then spent two semesters at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin. Upon her return to the Czech Republic, she worked at the Činoherní studio in Ústí nad Labem and guest-starred in The Beggar's Opera at the National Theatre. After her engagement in Ústí, she began to work mainly on Prague's independent theatre scenes (MeetFactory, Theatre X10, A Studio Rubín). In 2022, she portrayed Captain Hořavová in the series Marta's Extraordinary Cases.
