Crisis intervention

A number of different facilities providing crisis assistance, staffed by professionals and volunteers, are now available to people dealing with an urgent crisis situation. The publication by a broad team of authors summarizes the current state of the field, which is the basis of their work, and describes the basic procedures of crisis intervention in various situations. The introductory part of the book characterizes the common features of life situations in which people seek crisis help and shows the possibilities of professional help in a crisis. It provides an overview of crisis intervention centres in the Czech Republic and abroad. The theoretical background and the individual steps of various forms and techniques of crisis intervention are discussed in detail - face to face (with an individual, a couple, a group); telephone assistance, mobile services (call-out, field work) and crisis intervention in disasters. In a special section, the authors discuss the main types of crisis situations: crises associated with individual phases of human life (crisis intervention for children, adolescents and their families, crisis situations for women and men, in the elderly; crises related to partnership, marriage and sexuality); psychospiritual crisis; crises associated with mental disorders (clients with personality disorder, drug addiction; abused and abusive clients, suicide issues). The conclusion of the book is devoted to socio-legal aspects of crisis intervention.
