Courage Is Calling

It is said that fear is a bad counsellor, but what if the opposite is true? Maybe we should listen to it carefully, and then do the exact opposite of what it advises us. Fear is not the opposite of courage, but its driving force. Courage is then the purposeful work with fear and the triumph over it. The moment of truth. Someone once said that a stoic is a person who tells fate to go to hell. Exactly. A stoic resists. They fight. They must fight for the life they want. We are here for a very short time. “How will you spend this time? As a coward? What chances are you leaving untapped? Imagine the terrifying cost of staying on the ground. The fear you feel is a great sign. If you are never required to be courageous, you are living a boring life. Expose yourself to situations that force you to jump. Will you be brave? Will you answer the call? Will you put your skin in the game? What character will you show the world?” This is how Ryan Holiday speaks – concisely, provocatively, and appealingly – in the first of four books in the series on the stoic virtues. COURAGE - DISCIPLINE - JUSTICE - WISDOM “A clear and inspiring guide on how to develop this highest human virtue.” -- Robert Greene In a world ruled by fear – where people would rather stand aside than stand up against injustice, where they conform to conventions rather than bet on themselves, and where they turn a blind eye to the unpleasant reality of modern life – we need courage more than ever. We need the courage of whistleblowers and risk-takers. We need the courage of activists and adventurers. We need the courage of writers who tell the truth, and the courage of leaders who listen to them. We need you to step into the arena with courage and fight.
