Churches and Czech education

The teaching of religion in primary and secondary schools, theological research in universities and the establishment of religious schools for the general teaching of all subjects have in recent centuries become an expression of the religious freedom of the individual and of the various religious societies and churches. The publication, which is unique on the Czech market, focuses on the history of church education, religious education and the position of theological faculties. It draws on the distinction between the teaching of religion as a subject in schools and theology as a science, and also notes the difference between school religious instruction, to which everyone has access regardless of denomination, and religious training within churches, which is for believers. The book introduces students of pedagogical, philosophical and theological faculties to the organisation of an important part of Czech education, its development and the role played by the churches.
