Kryštof Alois Lautner, the Dean of Šumperk, is widely known as the adversary of inquisitor Boblig in the novel and film Witchhammer. But who was he really? Jaroslav Čechura presents him as a respected clergyman who served in several locations in northern Moravia before returning to his native Šumperk. The book follows his dramatic fall: a five-year imprisonment at Mírov and a brutal public execution reminiscent of Jan Hus's fate. Alongside the portrait of the inquisitor, Čechura thus lays down the second piece of the mosaic – the victim's story.
