Charles de Coster: the heroic, hilarious and famous stories of Thylbert Ulenspiegel.

Thyl Ulenspiegel is historically known more as a jester and a buffoon, but here he's been elevated by the author to the status of hero of the national resistance, while offering, albeit with a limp, comparisons in Czech history with his brother Paleček.De Coster, however, was struck by a rather cold reception, that his epic received. There could have been several reasons, but the main problem was probably the language, which would be accessible only to a small group of educated people. For when, shortly after the author's death, a new edition was made in modern French, which the author would never have chosen to do in his lifetime, the success was enormous. Directed by Jiří Horčička, the cast includes: Václav Voska, Luděk Munzar, Otakar Brousek, Miroslav Masopust, Jiřina Petrovická and Růžena Merunková.
