Celebrity mums
When we read the biographies of famous people, or when they give us a glimpse into their lives through published memoirs, we can't help but notice how often they speak of their mothers and the gratitude they express. It's not just for the gift of language – it's no coincidence we speak of our mother tongue. And a fascinating fact has followed us from the time of St. Wenceslas to the present day: the lives and works of prominent figures are often much more significantly influenced by their mother than their father. Pavel Taussig – a publicist, writer, film historian, and screenwriter – decided to bring the mothers of some of these famous individuals out of anonymity and pay tribute to their selfless dedication in accompanying their children, mostly sons, on their path to fame. The selection was spontaneous; he sought to portray the mothers of personalities who dazzled him with their importance. It is, of course, logical that many of the names can also be found at the top of the recent Greatest Czech poll. The book is about the mothers of famous figures from the fields of history, politics and public life, science, literature, theatre, film, and fine art, and is adorned with many unique photographs. It can therefore be not only a source of pleasant moments spent with instructive and touching profiles, but above all a beautiful gift, and not just for all mothers.
